Port Forwarding for the A-Link BR42

What is Port Forwarding?
What is Port Triggering?

Before we can forward ports for WinMX, we need to figure out what ports WinMX is using. Here is a brief walkthrough on how to do that. Go ahead and open up WinMX.

Click the Settings button in the menu at the top of your screen.

Under Internet Connection click the Incomming TCP Connections link. You should see a Listen on Port box. The port in that box is the one that needs to be forwarded to your computer. Please enter a port into that box. It doesn't matter what port number you choose, but a port number between 10000 and 60000 would be a good idea. Higher numbered ports are generally not blocked by ISPs. Please enter the port you chose for the Listen on Port box into the box below.

Once again in the Internet Connection section we are going to click a link. This time click the In/Out UDP Packets link. You should see an Send and receive UDP datagrams on port box. This is the port that you need to forward for your UDP connections. Once again pick a random port between 10000 and 60000, and enter it into that box. Please enter the port you chose for the Send and receive UDP datagrams on port box into the box below.

To setup port forwarding on this router your computer needs to have a static ip address. Take a look at our Static IP Address guide to setup a static ip address. When you are finished setting up a static ip address, please come back to this page and enter the ip address you setup in the Static IP Address box below.

Do not skip this step!

Please enter the static ip you want to forward to:

192.168.10.

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape. Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.10.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is 1234. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Click the NAT link near the top of the page.

The menu on the left should change. In this new menu, click Port Mapping.

1. 192.168.10.

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. WinMX requires you to forward the ports you entered above. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Port Mapping menu.

When you're finished, click OK near the bottom of the screen to save your changes.

And that's it! You're done!
