Before we can forward ports for mIRC, we need to set the ports that Mirc uses. Here is a brief walkthrough on how to do that. Go ahead and open up mIRC.
Click View in the menu at the top of your screen. In the list that drops down click Options.
On the left hand side of this new page click the plus sign in front of Connect. In the list that drops down click the Options link. There should be an Advanced button on this page. Go ahead and click it now.
Make sure there is a checkmark in the DCC checkbox. We will be using 10051 through 10070 as our port range in this example, but you can choose any port range you like. If you decide to choose another port range, you will need to forward the ports you chose instead of 10051 to 10070. The port range we are using in this example gives us plenty of ports for DCC file transfers. Once you have set the ports to use click the OK button all the way out to mIRC's main menu.
To setup port forwarding on this router your computer needs to have a static ip address. Take a look at our Static IP Address guide to setup a static ip address. When you are finished setting up a static ip address, please come back to this page and enter the ip address you setup in the Static IP Address box below.
Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape. Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has http://www.google.com in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.2.1.
You should see a box prompting you for your password. Enter your password now. By default your password is admin. Click the Log in button to log in to your router. Please visit our default username and passsword page, if the password shown above did not work for you.
We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. mIRC DCC - IRC DCC requires you to forward the 1024-5000 ports. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Virtual Server Settings menu and then click Apply.
And that is it! You are done!
