Firewalling for the Level One FBR-1411TX

Simple Instructions
If you have a router with a firewall and you just want to make your application work, you probably only need the first option, Open Incoming or Forwarded Ports.

More Advanced Options
If you are interested in a more advanced firewall setup, then you should consider turning on Deny All Incoming Traffic and Deny All Outgoing Traffic, and then turn on some Incoming and Outgoing rules for each application.

Open Ports Open Incomming or Forwarded Ports
  • This is the most common option. Think of it as a portforward for your firewall. Use this to let people into your network if you are currently denying incoming traffic.
Open Outgoing Ports
  • You only need to do this if you deny all outgoing traffic by default. Most hardware firewalls are not setup this way by default, but many software firewalls will need you to do this.
Close Ports Deny all Incomming Traffic
  • Unless you create Open Port exceptions above, this will prevent all incoming connections. Most hardware routers have this option turned on by default.
Deny all Outgoing Traffic
  • Unless you create Open Port exceptions above, this will prevent all outgoing connections. This is an advanced option and should only be done by experienced users.
