Configuring the ports of eDonkey!

Step 1:
Since you are reading this guide, I'm going to assume that you have eDonkey installed. Open up eDonkey.

Step 2:
Click the Options button at the top of your screen.

Step 3:
The Download Folder on this page is where the files you download with eDonkey will be saved. Go ahead and change that to whatever you like, if you haven't already changed it. Then click the Network link on the left hand side of your screen.

Step 4:
We are really only concerned with two boxes on this page. eDonkey uses one port for TCP traffic and another port for UDP traffic. Go ahead and enter the port to use for TCP traffic into the TCP Port box. You can leave this set to the default setting. Some ISP's may block the default eDonkey ports, so you might want to change them to a different port number. What port should you change them to? Any port that is not in use. Basicly you can use any port that you have not already forwarded. Go ahead and enter the UDP port to use into the UDP Port box. Then click the Ok button at the bottom of your screen.

Step 5:
Now go forward the ports you chose in your router. Make sure to select the TCP protocol when forwarding the port you entered into the TCP port box. You should also select the UDP protocol when you forward the port you entered into the UDP port box. Unfortunately eDonkey does not have a built in port test to see if these ports have been opened properly.
